The Shakespearian Stage - a Tour of Bankside and the London Theatre to 1661

Walk currently available for groups booking in advance
Old Operating Theatre Museum, St Thomas's St SE1 - £5/£4

On the walk we explore the history and culture of Bankside and the South Bank with a special focus on William Shakespeare and the Shakespearean Stage. We visit the central London's only remaining coaching Inn and walk along the historic Clink Street passed a host of fascinating sites before reaching the site of the Shakespearian Stages. Here we investigate the origins of the Theatre and the practices of Tudor and Stuart stagecraft. We cross the river to discover the site of Shakespeare's Winter Theatre. We then conclude the walk by discovering the sites of the very earliest theatre's on the 17th Century – as they reopened after the English Civil War.
