Virtual Covent Garden Tour

Covent Garden is one of London's fashionable market and shopping areas. Fifteen hundred years ago it was the centre of the Saxon market town of Lundenwic.

In the medieval period the area was owned by the Church and was known as the Convent Garden. In the 17th Century it became the first Piazza or Square in London and the home of West end Theatre.

Later in the Century the area began a descent downhill somewhat when the fruit, vegetable and flower market opened.
